World Railways Photograph Catalogue - Restoration & Archiving Trust

The Andaluces Company was the dominant force in the south western quarter of Spain up until the creation of the RENFE in 1943. It was created by a merger between some local companies in 1877 and in the following 60 years took over a number of other lines in the area; notably that from Algerciras to Bobadilla in 1913 and the South of Spain Railway to Almeria in 1930.
Locomotives of the former Central of Aragón line are also included here, not because there was any connection with the Andaluces but simply due to the latter’s small range of locomotive types. This line was built in the 1890s largely utilising Belgian capital and ran from Valencia to Caminreal where it split with one line continuing north to Zaragoza and the other (since closed) running north west to Calatayud.
