Until its closure in 1976 when the reserves of mahogany and other hardwoods ran out, the Insular Lumber Company's mill at Fabrica was the largest lumber operation in the world according to Wikipedia. It was American owned and had been operating since the early 1900s utilising a 3' 6" gauge railway system using US built locomotives, mainly Shays but also a single 0-6-6-0 mallet.
