A view of the hot slag being tipped from the pneumatically operated ladles at Anshan steelworks on 28/1/1996. The drag cranes are used to clear away the solidified slag from the embankment so that tipping operations are able to continue. The crane behind the slag ladles has a heavy weight that is swung to hit the ladles thus removing any remaining stubborn slag. Occasionally the crane operator is a little over-enthusiastic with the swing and ends up hitting the whole ladle off the rails and down the embankment. Photo Dave Whitfield
