The company's 929km long 2ft 6ins gauge main line between
Antofagasta and Oruro in Bolivia was built in stages between 1873 and 1892. The
timetable in this booklet quotes a first class fare for this journey in sterling of
£4 1 shilling and 5 pence. In 1916 the Bolivian section between Oruro and Uyuni was
converted to metre gauge to match the connecting lines within the country but at the
time this booklet was published the remaining 617km of line was still laid to the narrower
gauge; the conversion of this finally taking place between 1926 & 1928.
